Hanging crochet snowman ornament

Materials and tools:

Crochet hook: 4.5 mm.
Yarn: super bulky – category 5
– white
– blue
– brown
– orange
Stuffing
Scissors
Sewing needle
Two 8 mm safety eyes

Abbreviations:

sc- single crochet
dec- decrease
inc- increase
ch- chain
slst- slip stitch
fl- front loop
BLO- back loop only
cc- color change

Arms (make 2)

Using blue yarn:
R1. 8 sc in MR (8)
R2. 8 sc (8)
R3. 2 sc, (in the same stitch, 2dc, slst), 5 sc (10)
R4. 1 sc, dec x2, 1 sc, dec x2 (6)
CC to brown.
R5. BLO: 6 sc (6)
R6. 6 sc (6)
Repeat round 6 (6sc) until you have a long tube that measures approx 12 in.

Trim around mitts

In the FL of R5, pull up a loop of blue yarn. 2sc in each stitch (12).
Fasten off and hide ends. Repeat this for the other arm.

Scarf

Chain 43. Fasten off & leave a tail for sewing.
Sew the scarf around the snowman’s neck.

Nose

Insert hook the FL of R20.
Pull up a loop and chain 4 slst back into the FL of R20.
Fasten off and tie ends.

Buttons

Sew 2 buttons on equally spaced on the front, centre of the body.
If you don’t have buttons, you could also use black thread to embroider two dots.

Trim on hat

For the trim on the hat, we are creating a “zig-zag” pattern.
In any front loop of round 26 pull up a loop, chain 2 & slst into the front loop in round 27.
1 sc into the next stitch in round 27.
Repeat this around the hat. Once you return to where you started, fasten off and hide ends.

Ball on hat

Pull up a loop of white yarn in the FL on the top of the hat.
Ch 1, hdc in the same stitch, hdc inc x5, slst into the ch 1.
Fasten off and pull the yarn through the remaining stitches to create a “ball”.
