We spent a week in the White Mountains two summers ago and decided I needed a new hobby. Yes, right then and there. crochet. I haven’t really thought or thought much about the idea, I just went for it. I went into town (they only have a Wal-Mart) and stopped by the craft department.

Now, I’ve never crocheted (or knitted) before, actually the last yarn/thread project I remember was making a knotted embroidery floss bracelet in middle school… So it couldn’t be more accurate to say that I started from scratch.

I bought his book, which includes lots of crochet hooks, afghan patterns (why bother with something small, make it big?), a few colors of yarn, and of course an instructional DVD (points!).

Thanks to the book, YouTube, and a little digging, I was able to pick up some simple stitches and spent 2 full days in my pajamas on the couch doing nothing but knitting a perfectly imperfect and imperfect random piece. until the afghan takes on a completely rough and ugly shape. Let it go.

When I got home later that week, I was inspired to start a “real” project, so I grabbed some more thread and started over. This pattern of starting and dismantling and eventually abandoning projects continued for several more weeks.

Finally, in hopes of actually completing a project, I decided on something easy; A simple shot sized afghan with just 1 stitch and minimal discoloration. I can do that! After just a week and a half, I’m very proud to announce, I’ve finished my first crochet blanket.

I’m addicted to making blankets, and I think most of the charm lies in finding a model that feels good a great deal throughout the making process. The act of crocheting on a neat row of gorgeous colors is so peaceful and relaxing that I don’t want it to end. However, it’s pretty awesome to end up with a nice blanket at the end of the trip.

This pattern uses only one crochet stitch – Treble Crochet (it’s called Double Crochet in the US). An incredibly simple yet very effective mixed strip using two rows of crochet for each color. Its simplicity (too little counting or pattern reading!) makes it an extremely enjoyable project, and is especially suitable for the colder months of the year when you can relax while working and enjoy the cozy warmth of the blanket on your lap. . The rows grow satisfactorily quickly and the simple stitch mix creates a beautiful surface texture. Make a versatile blanket, as they say here in Yorkshire.

I don’t know about you, but I know I’m a blanket monster. There is no such thing as too much, whether I make it for myself or for gifts, they are beautiful.

Lately I’ve been obsessed with textured patterns, the look and feel of how long the pattern lasts because I try to pay attention to how the texture works. If I have a pleasant day, I might get lost in one of these textured patterns and everything seems to melt away.

As much as we all deny it and hate to admit it, cold weather is sneaking up on us. This Textured Lasting Crochet Blanket looks so cozy it screams out that you need to wipe me off so you can curl up on those snowy days.

Made in two different colors using wool yarn, it can be a great gift idea, especially if you know a winter baby like me. Play with colors and have fun with this beauty of a blanket.

Take a Sunrise

Worsted Weight Yarn:
Baby: 620 – 640 yards
Small: 770 – 800 yards
Medium: 930 – 960 yards
Large: 1180 – 1230 yards
XL: 1660 – 1760 yards

Tapestry needle
Stitch markers – ring style
GAUGE*
Stockinette stitch with US size 8 needles: 16 sts & 23 rows = 4”

When I planned this blanket design in early February 2020, the title Take a Sunrise was inspired by a line from a favorite children’s movie: “Who Can Get Sunrise, Sprinkle Dew On It.” I started knitting this blanket in early March in gratitude for a project that kept me busy as the news around the world became more and more disturbing. After a few days staying home has become the new norm.

Henry’s Baby Blanket

Materials

Level: Easyish
Size: Blanket measures 30″x38″. Adjustment instructions are given in Notes section.
Hook: H (5.0mm)
Yarn: I used about 1,330 yards of Cascade Longwood (from Jimmy Beans Wool), but any #4 worsted weight yarn will work. Here’s my breakdown, and the colors as assigned in the pattern:
COLOR A (White): Cascade Longwood – 01 White (about 220 yards, or <2 skeins)
COLOR B (Navy): Cascade Longwood – 40 Midnight (about 370 yards, or almost 2 full skeins)
COLOR C (Gray): Cascade Longwood – 02 Frost Gray (about 370 yards, or almost 2 full skeins)
COLOR D (Green): Cascade Longwood – 18 Green Spruce – discontinued (about 370 yards, or almost 2 full skeins)
You’ll also need: Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: Not super important, but 14 rows of 16 HHDC = 4″.

This quilt pattern uses modern ribbed stripes on both ends, and the large dark blocks have a variable texture and are separated by a thin white line to create a modern finished look that adds great visual interest without being too fancy. This blanket is suitable for both boys and girls.

Have you ever tried a wavy crochet pattern before? what are your impressions? We think pretty eye-catching effects here are easy to achieve, and the look of the final product denies the fact that it doesn’t require much effort to complete these projects. Sounds great, doesn’t it? All in all, squiggly stitches are undeniably fun to work with, which is why most crocheters have a few in their magic tricks repertoire. If you haven’t found your favorites yet, we invite you to take a look at some inspiring examples of Wavy Stitched Blankets. Here you will find the simplest ripples and some very creative variations in sewing. We know one thing for sure – it’s all so inspiring!

This adorable blanket can be both: an elegant bedspread in gorgeous style, or a glamorous baby blanket that every little one will love. It all depends on the colors you choose obviously. The classic wavy stitch is spiced up here with cute little bubbles. Can you imagine how this tissue must feel? This design is the perfect example of a creative reinterpretation of classic stitches. We dig the color that the author of this version used a lot! The link of the free pattern is below the photo.

The Boho Stripes Blanket

Materials

YARN
Any worsted weight yarn will do. I would choose one on the heavier side. Think Caron One Pound or Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran. I used Ice Yarns Saver (check out yarn haul video here) for the majority of the blanket and a little bit of Lionbrand Wool Ease for the accent color. You’ll need:
2000 yards (1850m) of your main two colors, 1000 yards each.
150 yards (140m) of an accent color

I don’t knit Afghan crochet hooks very often, but it has a special place in my heart as it was my grandmother’s creation! Whenever there was a big event in the family, a blanket was prepared for him a few months in advance. She always took care to choose colors that matched her recipient’s decor perfectly, and at the time I didn’t know how long her huge, elaborate Afghan crochet pieces lasted.
